Hey there

What does Diversity, Equity & Inclusion mean to you? Some think D,E&I conversations are about political-correctness and supporting minority groups. I invite you to open your mind to see opportunities for diversity & inclusion everyday, around us. 3RD CULTURE by Nisha Rajamani A media industry leader with experiences, connections and training in diversity & inclusion, Nisha shares lived experiences as an Indian-Australian, drawing from current topical conversations in society.  Say hello & take your first step towards developing greater diversity & inclusion in your workplace.

Acknowledgement of Country We stand in footsteps millenia old. May we acknowledge the traditional custodians of this great brown land and pay respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

Nisha's Story

Migrating to Adelaide in 1991, I was one of only two Indian kids at our primary school and I experienced racism as many did and continue to. As an adult, the side effect of this is that I constantly modified my individuality with a focus on assimilation.   In my early 20s starting in media, I purposefully modelled my accent on Julia Gillard as the best representation of ‘true blue’ (or so I then thought). And as I rolled this out to the old school industry professionals, I would often feel that I had won by tricking them into thinking I was the same as them. It dawned on me many years later that I had also slowly tricked myself out of my cultural heritage.

My motivation is for everyone to bring their true self to work and play, and never feel that this compromises their chances to be seen or their output respected. This applies to cultural identity as much as to additional intersectional layers such as being a parent, being gender diverse, identifying as LGBTQIA+ our age, neurodiversity or being differently-abled.

I started 3RD CULTURE to promote awareness of the importance of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in our and how we can all build a more positive future by expanding our perspectives.
